macOS
◌ COMING EVENTUALLY

A macOS version is theoretically possible given that computers are computers. We have not started building it. We are thinking about starting to think about it. We will keep you posted. We will not keep you posted.

NOT YET
LINUX
◌ UNKNOWN ETA

Linux users are perfectly capable of downloading files without our help. We respect that. We also know they will compile it from source if they want it badly enough. The source is right there. You know where it is.

COMPILE IT YOURSELF
MOBILE (iOS / ANDROID)
✕ NOT PLANNED

Downloading files on a phone raises philosophical questions we are not prepared to engage with at this time. Where does the file go? What even is a file system on a phone? We need to lie down.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Operating SystemWindows 10 / 11 (64-bit). A computer that runs Windows. One of those.
ProcessorOne (1) processor. Any kind. We are not picky. It just has to run things.
RAMEnough. We have not measured how much "enough" is. It boots on most things.
Storage12 MB for the app. Plus however much space your downloads require, which is your problem, not ours.
Runtime.NET 8 (included). The installer will handle this. Trust the installer.
Internet ConnectionRequired. Without it, there is nothing to download. The app will open but you will stare at it.
ElectricityYour computer must be on. This is not negotiable.
Will to DownloadAt least moderate. Indifference may be sufficient.
FfmpegOptional, for video streams. If you don't have it, we will tell you. We are forthright about ffmpeg.
HopeRecommended but not technically required.
BOOT SEQUENCE — INSTALL GUIDE
[STEP 1] Download the installer. You have downloaded things before. This is the same. [STEP 2] Run FloppyFetch-v4.0.1-Setup.exe. Click yes to the prompt. You know the prompt. [STEP 3] .NET 8 installs automatically if needed. This takes approximately as long as it takes. [STEP 4] FloppyFetch appears on your desktop. A shortcut. A portal. A beginning. [STEP 5] Open FloppyFetch. Paste a URL. Watch. A file materializes on your hard drive. [STEP 6] Sit quietly for a moment with what you have accomplished. You deserve that. [NOTE] If something goes wrong, it is not FloppyFetch. It is the internet. The internet has always been unreliable. This is not new.
CHANGELOG — RECENT INNOVATIONS
v4.0.1 — CURRENT RELEASE  [LATEST]
  • Rewrote the download button. It is now 3% rounder.
  • Improved the progress bar. It now progresses with greater intention.
  • Fixed a bug where downloaded files were files. This was correct; we left it as-is.
  • Upgraded Bytes-In-Order Protocol™ to v2.1. Bytes remain in order.
  • Added support for files that are large. Also files that are small. Any size, really.
  • Phosphor glow is now 8% more phosphorescent. Measured subjectively.
v3.9.0 — THE QUANTUM UPDATE
  • Introduced the Quantum Download Orchestration Layer™. It is an HttpClient.
  • Added "AI-Enhanced Progress Estimation" (divided downloaded bytes by total bytes).
  • Improved retry logic. We now try more times when things fail. Revolutionary.
  • Removed a feature that didn't work. Replaced it with a feature that also doesn't work, but differently.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when the internet was unavailable. We now tell you the internet is unavailable.
v3.0.0 — THE DISRUPTION RELEASE
  • Initial major release. The app now exists.
  • Added downloading. Core feature. Very important.
  • Implemented the terminal UI. Users describe it as "green."
  • Added scanlines. Not everyone asked for this. We added it anyway.
  • Named the company FloppyFetch. Extensive branding process. Two minutes.
v0.0.1 — THE GENESIS
  • A file was downloaded manually and saved. This moment gave us an idea.
  • The idea was: what if a program did this.
  • Development began.
